Quercetin with bromelain is a unique bioflavonoid derived product from plant sources. In human
cell culture studies, Quercetin has been shown to inhibit histamine
release. Additional research needs to be conducted to confirm the effects
of quercetin, if any, in humans. Bromelain is a pineapple enzyme. Magnesium ascorbate is a buffered
(non-acidic) form of vitamin C that helps support the immune system.

Benefits of quercetin
supplement
Cancer -- Quercetin has anti-tumor potential.
In hepatoma cell lines, in vitro studies show quercetin blocks cell cycle
progression at G(1) phase and exerts its growth-inhibitory effect through the
increase of Cdk inhibitors p21 and p27 and tumor suppressor p53.
Heart disease -- Quercetin inhibits the proliferation and migration of aortic
smooth muscle cells, concomitant with inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinase
phosphorylation. These findings provide new insights and a rationale for the potential use
of quercetin in the prophylaxis of cardiovascular diseases.
Prostate -- Preliminary studies indicate that quercetin my
inhibit the proliferation of androgen-independent human prostatic tumor cells.
Quercetin and exercise
Quercetin increases brain and muscle mitochondrial biogenesis and
exercise tolerance.
Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2009 Feb 11. Davis JM, Murphy EA,
Carmichael MD, Davis B. University of South Carolina.
Quercetin is one of a broad group of natural polyphenolic flavonoid substances
that are being investigated for their widespread health benefits. These benefits
have generally been ascribed to its combination of anti-oxidant and
anti-inflammatory activity, but recent in vitro evidence suggests that improved
mitochondrial biogenesis could play an important role. However, the in vivo
effects of quercetin on mitochondrial biogenesis exercise tolerance are unknown.
We examined the effects of 7-days of quercetin feedings in mice on markers of
mitochondrial biogenesis in skeletal muscle and brain, and on endurance exercise
tolerance. Quercetin increased mRNA expression of PGC-1alpha and SIRT1, mtDNAand
cytochrome c concentration. These changes in mitochondrial capacity were
associated with an increase in both maximal endurance capacity and voluntary
wheel running activity. These benefits of querectin on fitness without exercise
training may have important implications for enhancement of athletic and
military performance and may also extend to prevention and/or treatment of
chronic diseases. Key words: flavonoid, endurance capacity, mitochondria.
Quercetin supplement Research Update
Consumption of black currants, lingonberries and bilberries increases
serum quercetin concentrations.

To study serum quercetin concentrations of subjects consuming berries
or habitual Finnish diets. DESIGN: Randomized parallel dietary intervention.
Forty healthy men (age 60 y). Twenty subjects consumed
100 g/day of berries (black currants, lingonberries and bilberries) for 8 weeks.
Twenty subjects consuming their habitual diets served as controls. Fasting blood
samples were obtained 2 weeks prior to the study, at baseline, and at 2, 4 and 8
weeks. Intake of quercetin was assessed from 3 day food records collected at
baseline and at 8 weeks. RESULTS: The serum quercetin concentrations were
significantly higher in the subjects consuming berries compared to the control
group. During the berry consumption
period the mean serum concentrations of quercetin ranged between 21 and 25
micro g/l in the berry group, which was 32-51% higher compared with the control
group. According to 3 day food records, there was no difference in quercetin
intake at baseline, but at 8 weeks the intake was 12.3+/-1.4 mg/day (mean+/-s.e.m.)
in the berry group and 5.8+/-0.6 mg/day in the control group.
The results indicate that the berries used in this study are a good
source of bioavailable quercetin.

Q. I was looking at Quercetin as a
nutritional supplement. I’ve read that quercetin is one of the best
flavones and aromatase inhibitors. Will quercetin suppress estrogen levels.
If not quercetin, which of your supplements contain the best aromatase
inhibitor?
A. Not enough research has been done in humans to determine whether
quercetin suppresses estrogen levels, and if so, at what dosage.
Q. I would like to use quercetin supplement to block
the receptors on the cells of the prostate cancer. Could you suggests a dosage,
and any particular brand or products containing quercetin.
A. Hardly any human studies have been done with quercetin
supplements and their in vivo influence on prostate cells or prostate cancer
cells, therefore it is not easy to determine the appropriate quercetin dosage
and whether this supplement is effective as a prostate cancer treatment.
Q. I am a pharmacist from iraq. Is there is any study
on the use of quercetin pill in rheumatoid arthritis and if so what is the
mechanism?.Is there is a relations of quercetin pill to interleukines?
A. Here is a study on quercetin and arthritis:
The antioxidants curcumin and quercetin inhibit inflammatory processes
associated with arthritis.
Inflamm Res. 2006 April. Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of
British Columbia, 2146 East Mall, Vancouver BC, Canada V6T 1Z3.
Curcumin and quercetin are antioxidant molecules with anti-proliferative,
anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activities. The objective of this study
was to investigate the inhibitory activity of these agents using four assays of
inflammatory aspects of arthritis. Crystal-induced neutrophil activation was
measured by luminol-dependent chemiluminescence. Synoviocyte proliferation was
measured by an MTS assay using HIG-82 rabbit synoviocytes in cell culture.
Chondrocyte (cultured primary cells) expression of the matrix metalloproteinases
collagenase and stromelysin was measured by Northern Blot analysis. Angiogenesis
was measured using the chorioallantoic membrane of the chick embryo. Both agents
inhibited neutrophil activation, synoviocyte proliferation and angiogenesis.
Curcumin strongly inhibited collagenase and stromelysin expression at micromolar
concentrations whereas quercetin had no effect in this assay. These studies
suggest that curcumin and to a lesser extent quercetin may offer therapeutic
potential for the treatment of crystal-induced arthritis or rheumatoid
arthritis.
Q. I am using quercetin product on my horses and was
wondering if it was available in bulk powder form.
A. Quercetin may be available in bulk powder form to consumers, but
we don't know any vitamin companies that sell it.
