Pioglitazone side effects
Pioglitazone is a
pharmaceutical drug
used for diabetes. Pioglitazone is an active ingredient in Actos, Actoplus met, duetact, all sold
to treat diabetes.
Women taking Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.'s. pioglitazone drug for diabetes
have more reports of fractures in clinical trials than those taking a placebo or
another drug.
Most of the fractures found in the clinical trials were in the forearm, hand,
wrist, foot, ankle or leg.
In Feb 2007, GlaxoSmithKline Plc wrote to U.S. doctors warning of an increased
bone fracture risk associated with its diabetes drug Avandia, which is in the
same class of drugs as pioglitazone.
