Siraitia grosvenori Swingle is a traditional Chinese fruit used as a folk
medicine. Its extract contains potent sweet elements with a sweetness several
hundred times higher than table sugar. We investigated the antidiabetic effect
of luo han guo extract in the type 2 diabetic Goto-Kakizaki rat. Our data
indicate that luo han guo extract supplementation may prevent complications and
attenuate pathological conditions for type 2 diabetes, along with its
sweet characteristics.
Our experience with luo han guo
We keep luo han guo on our kitchen counter and use it to sweeten teas. It is low-calorie,
has a fruity sweetness, and we recommend it as an alternative to sugar and
artificial sweeteners. It's great that we now have two low or no-calorie alternatives to
traditional sweeteners:
Stevia and luo Luo han guo.
