Yohimbe Bark information
- Yohimbe extract information, and Yohimbe side effects
Passion Rx with Yohimbe bark extract is one of the most popular sexual enhancement products on the market with a very high rate of reorders
Yohimbe is the name of the bark of a tall evergreen tree in western Africa known as Pausinystalia yohimbe or Corynanthe yohimbe. Yohimbe bark has been used for centuries in some western African nations for sexual enhancement. Yohimbe bark has been reported to contain up to 6% total alkaloids, 10-15% of which is yohimbine. In other words, a small percentage of a chemical called yohimbine is found in the bark of the yohimbe tree. Currently yohimbe bark extracts are sold in varying alkaloid concentrations, ranging from plain yohimbe bark powder, to yohimbe extract 2%, yohimbe extract 4%, yohimbe extract 8%, and up to yohimbe extract 20%. The higher the concentration of yohimbe extract, the more potent the yohimbe supplement, and the more likely yohimbe side effects will occur. But then again, the higher percentage yohimbe extracts are more effective at a lower dosage. Consider a very popular and effective sexual enhancement product called Passion Rx with Yohimbe extract. Also, you can also find yohimbe herb capsules sold in a bottle. See a few paragraphs below.

Yohimbe Side effects and Cautions - Is yohimbe safe?
Yohimbe bark should be used cautiously by anyone with a medical condition, particularly those with unstable hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, or those taking medicines, particularly tranquilizers, antidepressants, sedatives, antihistamines, amphetamines and other stimulants, including caffeine and herbal stimulants such as ginseng. Some of the side effects of high dose yohimbe supplements include anxiety, changes in blood pressure, heart rate increase, palpitations, dizziness, headache, visual disturbances, nausea or abdominal cramps, increased body temperature and sweating. I do not recommend yohimbe to anyone over the age of 65. Since high doses of yohimbe may cause confusion and disorientation, it should not be taken while operating machinery, driving, or performing hazardous activities. As with many herbs or medicines, the right dose works well but too high a dose causes side effects.
Additional Yohimbe side effects and cautions
Yohimbe bark contains yohimbine, an alpha-2-adrenergic blocking agent. Do not use yohimbe supplements if you have high blood pressure, heart disease (including irregular rhythm), kidney, thyroid or liver disease, a seizure disorder or stroke. Do not take yohimbe supplements with any antidepressant medications or MAO inhibitors, or with foods containing high amounts of tyramine (such as cheese or red wine) or with decongestants, diet aids, products containing phenylpropanolamine, hormones such as DHEA or pregnenolone, or supplements that have a stimulating effects, such as sexual enhancement herbs, SAM-e, tyrosine, etc. Consult with your doctor before use if you have any health problems or are taking any medications. Discontinue use and consult your doctor if you experience high blood pressure, heart palpitations or rapid heart beat, dizziness, headache, rash, tremors, depression or hallucinations. Other yohimbe side effects may include nervousness, anxiety, mood changes, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, urinary retention, dilation of pupils, or skin flushing. Yohimbe side effects are dose dependent.
Is Yohimbe bark only for Men?
Yohimbe herb is often thought of for male erectile function. Most people don't realize that yohimbe is also a sexual stimulant in women. Women like the enhanced sensation and engorgement of genital organs that yohimbe provides, as long as the dose is kept low to prevent the yohimbe side effects discussed below.
What the Research says about Yohimbe
Yohimbine pills (not yohimbe pills) have been evaluated in the management of erectile disorder by means of many placebo-controlled trials. It does appear to have a therapeutic benefit. In contract, yohimbe has not been studied much. Here's one summary of a study:
A 1977 German double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of yohimbine hydrochloride included 86 patients with erectile dysfunction and without clearly detectable organic or psychologic causes. Yohimbine hcl was administered orally in a dosage of 30 mg a day (two 5 mg tablets three times daily) for eight weeks. Patients were seen for follow-up after four weeks' treatment, and for a final visit after eight weeks. Efficacy evaluation was based on both subjective and objective criteria. Subjective criteria included improvement in sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, frequency of sexual contacts, and quality of erection (penile rigidity) during sexual contact/intercourse. Objective criteria of outcome were based on improvement in penile rigidity determined by use of polysomnography in the sleep laboratory. Overall Yohimbine hcl was found significantly more effective than placebo in terms of response rate: 71 vs 45%. Yohimbine hcl was well-tolerated: Only 7% of patients rated tolerability fair or poor, and most adverse experiences were mild. There was no serious adverse event.
Yohimbe Mechanism of Action
Yohimbine acts through the nervous system to increase blood flow to the genital region. Although many pharmacological properties of yohimbine have been described, at the plasma concentration attained at recommended dosages in humans the predominant activity is antagonism of alpha 2-adrenoceptors. Yohimbine is a specific extract from yohimbe bark. It is not clear whether the other alkaloids in yohimbe also have a pro-sexual effect.
Yohimbe bark contains yohimbine, an alpha-2-adrenergic blocking agent, and other alkaloids. Do not use yohimbe pills if you have high blood pressure, heart disease (including irregular rhythm), kidney, thyroid or liver disease, seizure disorder or stroke. Do not take yohimbe pills with any antidepressant medications or MAO inhibitors, or with foods containing high amounts of tyramine (such as cheese or red wine) or with decongestants, diet aids, products containing phenylpropanolamine, hormones such as DHEA or pregnenolone, or supplements that have a stimulating effects such as many sex herbs, SAM-e, tyrosine, etc. Consult your doctor before use if you have any health problems or are taking any medications. Discontinue use and consult your doctors if you experience high blood pressure, heart palpitations or rapid heart beat, dizziness, headache, rash, tremors, depression or hallucinations. Other yohimbe side effects may include nervousness, anxiety, mood changes, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, urinary retention, dilation of pupils, or skin flushing.
Availability of Yohimbe
Yohimbe bark is sold widely in different dosages and extract potencies including yohimbe 2%, yohimbe 4%, 6%, 8%, and up to 20% alkaloids. It is difficult to give precise dosage recommendations for yohimbe extracts since sometimes manufacturers and formulas are not consistent in their content or extract potencies of yohimbe herb. In one study, of twenty commercial aphrodisiac preparations were analyzed and the amount of yohimbine measured and expressed as the maximal dose per day suggested on product labels ranged from 1.32 to 23.16 mg.
Timing and Frequency of Yohimbe supplement use
Yohimbe bark may be used either daily or before planned activity. In our opinion, since yohimbe bark extract works quite quickly, it makes sense that it be taken as needed one to three hours before planned sexual activity rather than taken daily. The effects last several hours. We don't recommend you take yohimbe bark close to bedtime since it can have a stimulant and alertness causing effect for several hours. We don't recommend you mix yohimbe pills with alcohol or stimulant drugs, including high doses of caffeine.
The effective dosage of yohimbe bark varies depending on the individual using it, the quality of the product, and the extract potency. A starting yohimbe bark powder dosage is between 100 to 200 mg. The dosage for yohimbe bark extract depends on the potency of the extract.
Yohimbe bark emails
Q. What's the most common side effect from yohimbe bark?
A. The first thing you may notice after an hour or two of taking a yohimbe capsule or tablet is sweating under the arms. On higher doses of yohimbe herb you will notice a higher body temperature, an even higher doses of yohimbe lead to slightly blurred vision, mild anxiety, and a sense of not feeling well. Very high doses of yohimbe lead to heart palpitations. Fortunately, most of these yohimbe side effects only last an hour or two.
Q. I'm on beta blockers, can I take yohimbe?
A. Beta blockers are known to lower sex drive and cause erectile dysfunction. Small amounts of yohimbe taken infrequently should not cause any problems, but of course this has to be done under medical supervision.
Q. Can I take yohimbe herb if I have high blood pressure?
A. It depends. If you have moderate to severe hypertension, then you should avoid yohimbe herb. However, if you have mild hypertension, then small amounts of yohimbe herb, that is, less than 150 mg of the bark powder, should be fine, especially with the consent of your doctor. The blood pressure effects of yohimbe herb don't last all day, only a few hours. If you are taking a yohimbe bark extract, the dosage would be much less than 150 mg depending on the extract potency.
Q. Can yohimbe herb be combined with other herbs such as tribulus, maca, or hormy goat weed?
A. I can only speak from my personal and professional experience. Thus far I have combined yohimbe bark extract with several herbs and have not found any significant side effects. Yohimbe usually starts having an effect within an hour or two while other herbs take much longer.
Q. Does yohimbe extract give more energy?
A. Yes and no. Small doses of yohimbe extract may make you slightly more motivated, but higher doses can cause unpleasant feelings and side effects, which would reduce energy.
Q. Can yohimbe bark extract be taken regularly for many months?
A. As with most herbs, we recommend taking breaks from use. In the case of yohimbe bark extract, it's best to take it as needed since it works so quickly and there's no need for it to build up in the system like other sexual enhancing herbs.
Q. Is it okay to workout in the gym after taking yohimbe extract?
A. Yohimbe extract increases body temperature, so we don't think it's a good idea to take it and engage in heavy physical activity, particularly in warm weather. Avoid yohimbe bark extract if you plan to be exposed to very hot temperatures. Drink cold water if you take a yohimbe supplement or any sexual formula with yohimbe herb in it.
Q. There are 2 products recommended for
better libido. Passion Rx with Yohimbe bark extract and Passion Rx without Yohimbe
I read about the side effects of yohimbe extract and would prefer to purchase
Passion Rx without yohimbe extract. Will either product achieve the same results in
regards to libido?
A. Yes, both Passion Rx products are effective, some people prefer one version without yohimbe extract, others prefer the one with yohimbe extract. They are equally effective although the version with yohimbe extract works quicker.

Q. What exactly is yohimbe and what is the difference between yohimbe and yohimbine?
A. The yohimbe tree is an evergreen native to western Africa. The bark of this tree contains a chemical called yohimbine. Yohimbe bark contains various substances of which the active ingredient is yohimbine. Yohimbine has been available as a prescription impotence medication for a number of decades, and its popularity plummeted when the impotence drug Viagra came on the market. The amount of yohimbine in nutritional supplements vary; some yohimbe products have little yohimbine whereas others have quite a high amount. The standardized form of yohimbine, yohimbine hydrochloride or yohimbine hcl, is still available as a prescription medicine. When you buy an over the counter yohimbe supplement, there will be yohimbine in it, the amount depending on the dosage and extract potency of the raw material in the product.
Q. I read a website where it said yohimbe
bark is devoid of the alkaloid yohimbine. Is this true?
A. This is not a true statement. Yohimbe bark does contain yohimbine. The amount of yohimbine in a yohimbe bark product depends on the quality of the raw material, the manufacturing process, and the yohimbe extract potency, whether it is a 2 percent yohimbe extract or an 8 percent yohimbe extract or a 20 percent yohimbe extract. The higher the extract percentage, the more yohimbine is likely to be present in the supplement.
Q. Is yohimbe bark extract appropriate for women as
well as men?
A. Yes, yohimbe herb is not just a male sexual herb, it works in a women, too. A woman may need a lower dosage due to less body weight.
Q. Is yohimbe root as effective as yohimbe
A. Good question. We are not as familiar with yohimbe root and are not aware of the percentage of yohimbine and other alkaloids in yohimbe root compared to yohimbe bark.

Q. Is yohimbe a fat burner, does yohimbe cause weight loss? A. Some people have less appetite when they use yohimbe supplement, but we don't think this is a safe herb for this purpose to take on a daily basis for prolonged periods. We prefer Diet Rx, a much safer appetite suppressant without yohimbe.
Q. What is the most serious yohimbe overdose problem?

Q. What is yohimbe hcl, I sometimes see this on a supplement fact panel.
A. We are aware of yohimbine hcl, but not yohimbe hcl.
Q. Is there an advantage to using liquid
yohimbe supplement rather than an oral yohimbe supplement?
A. Yohimbe capsules are easily absorbed, we don't see any advantage to using liquid yohimbe except in those individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets, capsules or pills. There is a possibility that if yohimbe liquid is quickly absorbed, there could be more yohimbe side effects.
Q. What is the ideal yohimbe dosage for
A. Each person responds to a different dosage of yohimbe supplements. Plus, there are various extract potencies. If you buy a yohimbe product such as the Natrol yohimbe bark supplement available above, at first only take a third of a tablet or capsule, particularly if you are taking other supplements or medicines. To be very safe, and in order to avoid yohimbe side effects, we suggest the first time you try a yohimbe pill to take it without other supplements or medications.

Q. I've used yohimbe bark for 8 months, on a daily basis, it was a GNC product brand, and the directions stated take 1-2 pills after meals up to 6 per day. I tried that once, but the side effects were unpleasant (anxiety and fast and hard heart rate) I cut down my dosage to 1 per day in the morning. Well, yohimbe bark at this level was great. No bad side effects, libido shot straight up, sex was more pleasurable. Point is, yohimbe is great if used properly. Don't over do it, don't mix it with tribulus or viagra and vicodin. ( i did this once and felt that I was going to pass out, with an erection though). Used properly this bark will make you a lovemaking machine, and you'll feel more too. If used daily it will increase sensitivity. I don't use it daily anymore, have been off it for 2 years, because I think it built up in my system and interacted with marijuana, I would get really really hot and my skin would turn bright red, after stopping the yohimbe this also stopped, i also stopped smoking pot. I went to the ER once because I swear I turned bright bright red, the doctor didn't know what to do, and he invited other doctors to stand over me and check me out. i was bright red. they gave me IV Benadryland that cured it.
Q. Is yohimbe root also effective as a
A. We have not come across research regarding the effectiveness of yohimbe root. Studies have focused on yohimbe bark extracts. Perhaps the root also has yohimbine alkaloids but we are not sure.
Q. How long do the effects of a yohimbe
A. Depends on the yohimbe dosage, but, in general, only a few hours. This is in contrast to other sexual herbs that can have an effect for a day or two.
Q. Does the pausinystalia yohimbe tree
grow in the US? Is it also called Corynanthe yohimbe?
A. We doubt it. If it does, we are not aware of any large pausinystalia yohimbe plantations. Yes, another name is Corynanthe yohimbe.
Q. Is there an independent yohimbe review
website that discusses the merits and side effects of different yohimbe products
on the market?
A. There are some websites that claim they are indiependent yohimbe review sites, but almost all of them are promoting their own product, often listed as the number one choice, and hence it is difficult to know which yohimbe reviews to trust.
Q. Can one make a yohimbe tea with the
A. Yes, but yohimbe tea does not taste well.
Q. I read on a medical website that
yohimbe is not safe at any dosage. What is your opinion on yohimbe safety?
A. Yohimbe is safe in low dosages. Is wine not safe at any amount? Wine is safe when you drink a couple of ounces, but it is not safe if you drink a whole bottle. Same with yohimbe herb.
Q. Do yohimbe benefits outweigh yohimbe
A. This is a decision each person has to make. Many people who want to improve their sex drive are willing to risk some side effects in order to derive more sexual pleasure and performance. Just about every herb or medicine for improving sexuality has some risk to it. Herbs are generally safer than prescription drugs.
Q. How is Advanced Yohimbe Plus different
that Passion Rx with Yohimbe bark extract? I understand they are both formulated
by Dr. Sahelian.
A. Advanced Yohimbe Plus was formulated by Dr. Sahelian back in the year 2000. Passion Rx with Yohimbe bark extract was formulated several years later as Dr. Sahelian gained additional knowledge on effective aphrodisiac herbs. Dr. Sahelian is no longer associated with the vitamin company that makes Advanced Yohimbe Plus.
Q. Is yohimbe an effective fat burner?
A. Yohimbe bark has too many side effects to be an effective fat burner for long term use. Therefore we don't find a benefit of yohimbe as a diet pill.
Q. Is there an objective yohimbe review
web site that I can read about the benefits and side effects of different
yohimbe supplements and sexual formulas that contain yohimbe bark?
A. Not that we are aware of. Almost all of the websites that discuss and review yohimbe products are associated with a company that sells either a yohimbe supplement or a libido enhancing formula. Some web sites may say bad things about yohimbe herb in order to sell a sexual formula that they have that does not contain yohimbe herb. Therefore, read yohimbe review sites with skepticism.
Q. Do you have any information regarding
yohimbe cream effective when applied to the genital area?
A. We don't have experience or information regarding yohimbe cream products, so we don't know.
Q. Are you familiar with yohimbe tea?
A. We have no experience at this time with yohimbe tea products.
Q. Is a benefit of yohimbe herb improved
athletic performance or better bodybuilding results?
A. On the contrary, yohimbe benefits do not include improved energy or endurance. The increase of body temperature as a side effect of yohimbe herb can actually decrease athletic performance. Yohimbe has no benefit for bodybuilding.
Q. Can yohimbe be ordered to ship to
Canada? I live in Canada and was wondering if yohimbe was banned in my country
if not I would like to purchase a yohimbe supplement.
A. Canada has a ban on the import of yohimbe pills and products. Therefore if you purchase yohimbe, customs may seize the product.
Q. What is the best yohimbe bark extract
A. It is difficult to say since different manufacturers have different compositions for their yohimbe extracts alkaloids and different people may respond differently to the varying extracts and yohimbe alkaloids.
Q. Is yohimbe herb okay to use with maca
herb. l arginine, or tribulus? Does yohimbe effect testosterone levels?
A. As long as the dosages are low, yohimbe, maca, l arginine and tribulus can be taken together. We don't think yohimbe effects testosterone levels in any significant extent.
Q. Which is more potent for libido,
tongkat ali or yohimbe bark extract?
A. Yohimbe works better for erections, tongkat ali has a more direct effect on libido.
